Nor Alam Shah appears to go down in the box after being pulled down by Thailand's No. 5 Niweat Siriwong. After the controversy penalty shot given by the malaysian referee in Kallang stadium, Singapore managed to win Thailand (2-1). This resulted in unhappiness amonst the Thai players and soon they were seen walking off the pitch, delaying the match by a good 15 minutes or so. The Thai Coach, instead of coaxing the players to continue the match, ended up encouraging the players to protest, threatening not to carry on playing as they felt injustice. The replays on camera also agreed that the penalty shot given by the referee was a harsh decision and Singaporeans including me were worried that this incident might worsen our diplomatic relationship with Thailand.
Security was then tightened at the Suphachalasai Stadium during the 2nd league of the game. Ten minutes into the game, Singapore had the ball in the back of the net but unfortunately for Radojko Avramovic's side, the goal was ruled out for offside.Thailand had taken the lead eight minutes before the break through Pipat Thonkaya but they were to endure a long night as their push for the all-important second goal came to naught. The Thais were one up during the first half of the game but that did not discourage the Lions from attacking. Then came the goal that silenced the capacity crowd. Substitute Khairul Amri's stunning goal nine minutes from time helped Singapore to a 1-1 draw with Thailand in the second leg of the Asean Football Championship final. The Thais defence left Amri unmarked and this punished them severely by allowing Amri to score a superb strike from his right foot. Singapore managed to hold on till the end and ensured that Singapore retain their crown and that they equal Thailand's feat of three Asean titles. Noh Alam Shah was awarded the tournament top scorer with 10 goals and the tournamet most valuable player. Celebration came as the Lions held the trophey up high in the Suphachalasai Stadium. Well done Lions!! They deserved the trophey for their preseverance.....
